Abstract typewriter and car

Abstract typewriter and car (2016)

This abstract shot was made in Las Vegas, Nevada. Some people who have looked at this picture can’t see the two main elements. To them it just looks like random shapes. Others only see one of the main elements…either the antique typewriter or the antique car. Few people instantly recognize both elements of the photo.

I don’t have an explanation for why different people see different things in this picture. That’s the fun part of abstract art. Appreciation is highly subjective and open to wide interpretation.

Something I never discuss is how I make my abstract photos. For me they are pure art and a technical description of how they were made in the camera would diminishes their impact. Suffice it to say that I don’t use Photoshop to manipulate my images. My abstract pictures are all done with basic in-camera tools and minimal processing on the computer to convert them to black and white images.
